Type 304 is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel, known as 18-8 for its 18% chromium and 8% nickel composition. This sheet is produced in an annealed condition, resulting in excellent ductility and formability. Conforming to ASTM A240, it is non-magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but its strength can be increased through cold working.
As a medium-thickness 12 gauge sheet, this product is well-suited for applications requiring a balance of strength and formability. Common uses include structural panels, machine guards, vehicle body panels, food processing equipment, and architectural cladding where durability and corrosion resistance are critical.
