Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically designed for superior machinability through an addition of sulfur. This modification reduces tool wear and allows for higher cutting speeds. Compliant with ASTM A582, it is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working, which increases its strength and hardness.
As a medium 9/16" diameter bar, this material is perfectly suited for general-purpose shafts, axles, bushings, and spacers. Its balance of size and strength makes it a versatile choice for CNC lathes and screw machines producing industrial components with tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes.
