Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel engineered for superior machinability through the addition of sulfur, which promotes chip breaking and reduces tool wear. It provides 90,000 PSI tensile strength, good corrosion resistance in mild environments, and conforms to ASTM A582 standards. It is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
