Type 303 stainless steel is an austenitic grade specifically designed for superior machinability through the addition of sulfur. This modification reduces tool wear and allows for higher cutting speeds in automated operations. While it slightly reduces corrosion resistance compared to Type 304, it offers good performance in mild environments. It is non-magnetic, conforms to ASTM A582, and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
