Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel designed for outstanding machinability. The addition of sulfur to its composition acts as a chip breaker, reducing tool wear and allowing for higher cutting speeds. It provides 90,000 PSI tensile strength, good corrosion resistance, and conforms to ASTM A582. As an austenitic steel, it is non-magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
