Type 303 is an austenitic stainless steel specifically modified with sulfur for superior machinability, conforming to ASTM A582. This addition reduces tool wear and allows higher cutting speeds, though it makes welding not recommended. It offers good corrosion resistance in mild environments and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working.
